Down At The Shore

Down At The Shore

A Poem by Pete
"

My life is like a stroll upon the beach. - Thoreau

"
beach with her hair blowing in the wind ...

meet me down at the shore
we'll drink sand and eat water
combing for glass as the breeze murmurs, "daughter"
skimming rocks and praying to the sky
wondering why
no one holds an open door
for tidal truth at its wading core

as waves go in and out forevermore
souls dancing whilst our bodies die
filling the sea with tears we cry
with a seaweed necklace, you wear your black dress
time and gravity will take care of the rest
as eternity takes its best guess
reaching for more
down at the shore

Pete
"The sea-shore is a sort of neutral ground, a most advantageous point from which to contemplate this world. It is hard to forget that which it is worse than useless to remember." - Thoreau

I think I'll pass on the drinking sand and eating seawater. If that's required I'd just as soon stay at the gulf eating crawdads and boudin, drinking beer and playing my guitar. In fact the latter almost sounds like a better plan, jambalaya and conch salad sandwiches with hot sauce, but it isn't dying I'm envisioning but living. As for women, I've only got one to worry about and she's worth every note. An interesting write but it sort of lost me in the progression.

amazing writing. the repetition of 'down at the shore' was very satisfying. it was superbly written.
the way the persona describes the beach and himself as not being separate is a beautiful way of thinking. i certainly feel a spiritual connection with the sea and the sand. the placid atmosphere is divine. the female persona, a tantalizing figure who the narrator invites is mysterious and graceful as the waves.
there is a lot to unpack with thi work. i had a hell of a time reading it.
