Estuarily Speaking

Estuarily Speaking

A Poem by Pete
"

If rivers come out of their icy prison thus bright and immortal, shall not I too resume my spring life with joy and hope? - Thoreau

"
Assabet River | Natural Atlas

tossed and scattered seed
lies, lust and remnants of greed
unconvincingly plead
where no one holds even a dusty, notarized, sapphire copy of creation's deed

well inland
refusing to be denied
the river burbles
as it makes its way to an unforgiving sea
where it deposits trash and remnants of faith
this unrecognized part of eternity not even counted as detritus of day eighth

as they play dress up and pretend
meaningless words spoken but never penned
forever forgetting that today is but another godsend
don't ask me to what everflowing end

Author's Note

Pete
"The life in us is like the water in the river. It may rise this year higher than man has ever known it, and flood the parched uplands; even this may be the eventful year, which will drown out all our muskrats." - Thoreau
