Not So Easygoing

Not So Easygoing

A Poem by Pete
"

So far as my experience goes, travelers generally exaggerate the difficulties of the way. Like most evil, the difficulty is imaginary; for what's the hurry? - Thoreau

"
Encouragement for Hard Times ...

crowing
stooped over from hoeing
swore he could hear the grass growing
not sure of where tomorrow was going
clinging to what yesterday was still showing
faithfully churchgoing
age showing
lint pockets empty and owing
fate claiming but destiny bestowing

rowing and towing
time foregoing
rock throwing
blood flowing and mind-blowing
overflowing
unknowing
not sure where he was going
for the time being,
no choice but to go along with whichever way the wind was blowing

Author's Note

Pete
"I am struck by the fact that the more slowly trees grow at first, the sounder they are at the core, and I think that the same is true of human beings. We do not wish to see children precocious, making great strides in their early years like sprouts, producing a soft and perishable timber, but better if they expand slowly at first, as if contending with difficulties, and so are solidified and perfected. Such trees continue to expand with nearly equal rapidity to extreme old age." - Thoreau

I really felt this one. It flows so smoothly, like a beat full of struggle and strength. That last line about going with the wind—wow, it says so much with so little. Beautifully real. Great job, Pete.
