A Poem by Pete
"

My life is like a stroll upon the beach. - Thoreau

"
What is a rip current? - Beach Safety Hub

tides of feelings and emotions draw in and out, forming reefs of stanzas
quatrains of waves slyly caress the shore in verses
tossed seaweed salad of rhythm along with sharp rocks of rhyme
assonance smooth as sea glass
deep, foaming meter
sunny metaphors play peek-a-boo behind passing clouds

broken shells of alliteration hurt my feet
i'm swept away
caught in a riptide
quickly
someone throw me a title
breathe life into drowning imagery
give my life meaning

Author's Note

Pete
"The sea-shore is a sort of neutral ground, a most advantageous point from which to contemplate this world. It is even a trivial place. The waves forever rolling to the land are too far-travelled and untamable to be familiar. Creeping along the endless beach amid the sun-squall and the foam, it occurs to us that we, too, are the product of sea-slime." - Thoreau

A very meaningful use of metaphor. One day, a very religious friend of mine told me that the waves were going backwards because they were trying to reach God. If he hadn't been such a bigot for his other thoughts about other things, I might have found it poetic. But how quickly my ideas change when a true poet like you explains it so beautifully! This is a very well written one.
"sunny metaphors play peek-a-boo behind passing clouds" so clever.
A very nice song and a very nice quote from Thoreau. Fits with the poem perfectly.
