Soul Shakedown

Soul Shakedown

A Poem by Pete
"

In an unjust society the only place for a just man is prison. - Thoreau

"
leg irons, early 19th century

we're all prisoners
sentenced to a swooning world
pending amnesty

Author's Note

Pete
"Why the jailer does not leave open his prison doors,--why the judge does not dismiss his case,--why the preacher does not dismiss his congregation! It is because they do not obey the hint God gives them, nor accept the pardon which he freely offers to all." - Thoreau

Wow, that hits deep. It’s short but really powerful like we’re all just waiting for a way out, hoping for something better. I really felt that.
The “swooning world” part especially got me feels like everything’s spinning and out of our control.
It’s such a calm yet heavy way to describe something so real.
Honestly, this did made me pause and think for a moment. Nice work.
