Oh Where Went The Rain

Oh Where Went The Rain

A Poem by Pete
"

I am soothed by the rain-drops on the door-sill; every globule that pitches thus confidently from the eaves to the ground is my life insurance. - Thoreau

"
The Rain Of Sadness Wallpaper ...

oh dear lord, my soul's in drydock pain
in need of repair
arid
thirsting
parched
withered
so desiccated
longing to be torrentially emancipated
my life's river down to a measly trickle
faith growing fickle
so low, you can walk across it and barely wet your feet
together with my ribs, i can count all the rocks on its sandy bottom
all the time, longing for the cooling precipitation of autumn

i still remember the times it fell
flooding my living hell
with a sound so relieving
its cleansing moisture immaculately conceiving
the splash of a puddle
its reassuring embrace and loving cuddle
gray clouds congregating
declaring and dictating
their hands joined together in thanksgiving
not taking but giving

my tears no substitute
not allowing precious life to take root
not able to give a scorching season the boot
it's been so long
i thirst for its baptizing drops
leaning on its sweet candy-cane
washing away the stain
the joyous, soothing sound of its healing refrain
won't you tell me, please, dear lord
oh where went the rain

Author's Note

Pete
“A single gentle rain makes the grass many shades greener. So our prospects brighten on the influx of better thoughts. We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us, like the grass which confesses the influence of the slightest dew that falls on it; and did not spend our time in atoning for the neglect of past opportunities, which we call doing our duty. We loiter in winter while it is already spring.” - Thoreau

Pete, as we are under many days of rain due to the tropical storm, I'm drawn straight to this write. I'm loving the positive affect you add with Thoreau who always seems to know what's going on!

I picture the author, all man, as the pic; on his exposed soul's knees; the rain scouring his regrets from his memory as it cleanses.

I love the sporadic rhyming and the video sounds nice with the read. Great touch!
The impact of your words blends perfectly. Love it!

I think feeling parched really digs seep into one’s soul… rain is not only nourishment for nature it is also sustenance for us, for our souls and our body….”my tears no substitute”……. great metaphor! love it!
