Let It Rain

Let It Rain

A Poem by Pete
"

Invariably our best nights were those when it rained. - Thoreau

last night's autumn rain
tap-dancing 'pon rooftops
its clouds flexing their muscles
gusting breezes panting and tracing a soft shoe shuffle
leaves parachuting hither and thither as they nervously pull never before ripcords
lulling an unfamiliar realm into a deep, sleepy, d-day trance
the river down below frolicking with rising coffers
no promises, no guarantees but a plethora of offers

gone as quickly as it came
a dearly departed
having completed its mission and performed due diligence
drawing the curtain with a determined resilience
memories in sweet dreams manifest and others seemingly forgotten
life begotten
tucked in with a blanket so intricately woven from nothing
but puring, loving intentions along with the finest peruvian cotton

Author's Note

Pete
"The indescribable innocence and beneficence of Nature-of sun and wind and rain, of summer and winter - such health, such cheer, they afford forever! and such sympathy have they ever with our race, that all nature would be affected, and the sun's brightness fade, and the winds would sigh humanely, and the clouds rain tears, and the woods shed their leaves and put on mourning in midsummer, if any man should ever for a just cause grieve." - Thoreau

I saw the title and immediately heard the Clapton song. It was Deric and the Dominoes, I believe. I like the autumn rain and the bit about leaves pulling their ripcords. While our Autumn is barely here, I bet yours is in glorious full bloom. Your poem is a fine one.
