Taking The Stairs

Taking The Stairs

A Poem by Pete
"

How could youths better learn to live than by at once trying the experiment of living? - Thoreau

"

cigarettes danglin'
young and new fanglin'
windows rolled down
wind in thick, mullet hair
holes in threadbare jeans
cruising 'round in a gold, tricked out, ford grenada
going everywhere and nowhere
betting life on a wing and a prayer
custom stereo blaring the stones to near deafness
rattling neighborhood windows
causing tremors in patched asphalt
like the san andreas fault
rockin' and rollin' by default

knowing everything and nothing
the world was ours and youth forever
the music and times would never end
joy and happiness just around the next bend
there was no tomorrow
no yesterday
no worries
no cares
no false airs
the world ours and not theirs
the future a game of musical chairs
whilst everybody waited for the elevator
we ran up the stairs

Loved the last lines re how everyone waited for the elevator you ran up stairs. Yes I did that too and love music still. We put our records on a lot now like yesterday played csny and a bit of Neil young alone.
I really Loved your descriptives.

We had it all the best times of our life in our youth and didn’t even really know it
well done 👍

Liked the upbeat, anarchic energy of this poem ...:)

It is indeed evocative of The Rolling Stones and their charisma and F£K it attitude to ife...

Nice rhyming scheme....

Cheers Pete...

Aye, I recall such times and behaviors. I am much more comfortable in my old age with my classical music now.

It's a nice valentine to the Rolling Stones. Also made me think of 1980's Bruce Springsteen.
