To See Another Day

To See Another Day

A Poem by Pete
"

The hawk is aerial brother of the wave which he sails over and surveys, those his perfect air-inflated wings answering to the elemental unfledged pinions of the sea. - Thoreau

"
River Hawks

eyes sharper than a razor blade
steady on course and not easily swayed
divine gift from heaven
more majestic than a boeing 747
climbing
ascending
never bending
soaring and circling
searching, eyeing, spying and crying
never questioning
never whoing, whating, whereing or whying
swooping and scooping
shrieking and whooping

part of the story
the hawk lives to proclaim your glory
the loftiness of creation
for the god-given right of wings to soar
dropping bread for the poor
showing us life and the way
on truth that lives
lives to declare and pray
giving faith a voice to say
saying what it has to say and laying what it has to lay
never going astray
airborne over land and walking on water despite feet of clay
if for no other reason than
to see another day

"I would rather never taste chickens' meat nor hens' eggs than never to see a hawk sailing through the upper air again." - Thoreau
