Prelude to Eternity

Prelude to Eternity

A Poem by Pete
"

As if you could kill time without injuring eternity. - Thoreau

"
The ghost orchid is a rare orchid with ...

standing 'pon a steep, muddy bank
hands and soul acquiver
a misguided almsgiver
i tossed a black orchid into the brown river
it had no choice but to go with the murky flow
but wouldn't you just know
it got hung up on a fallen tree leaning over a stubborn, unwilling rock
so i took the sad moment of my life to take stock
my faith and these obstacles doing their best to stand the test of time
seemingly amounting to a hill of beans
the tree a mere sliver
until the powers that be and the spirted breath of life will to deliver
putting an end to the whole stubborn, misguided prank

Author's Note

Pete
"Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars." - Thoreau
