Because I Took The Time To Stop And Look Up

Because I Took The Time To Stop And Look Up

A Poem by Pete
"

Every sunset inspires me with the desire to go to a West as distant and as fair as that into which the sun goes down. - Thoreau

"
Free Magenta Sunset Reflection Image ...

as a blustery, condescending, polar, mid-december day drew to a close
the last of the sun radiated through a congregation of clouds
speaking in tongues
preaching a resplendent, esoteric truth to my very soul
the clouds were like swirling puffs of exhaled, vape smoke
a divine incense
a danceable song of the ages
a revelation of angels, saints and prophets
an eternal moment captured for hungry, wanting eyes
swirling, curling, waving and wafting in nirvana's skies

a crescendo of light painting the western horizon from a palette of deep, rich hues
in a firey, nuclear explosion of fluorescent, purply magenta, fuschia and atomic scarlet
a cornucopia of all manners and shades of crimson
'twas like an artful, masterful, impressionist painting
a magnificent masterpiece hanging on the wall of my suddenly, not-so-little corner of the world
a prism of heaven itself
a gifted affluence
a concert of kings
filling my suddenly golden, paper cup
simply because i took the time to stop and look up

Author's Note

Pete
"We never tire of the drama of sunset. I go forth each afternoon and look into the west a quarter of an hour before sunset, with fresh curiosity, to see what new picture will be painted there, what new panorama exhibited, what new dissolving views. […] Every day a new picture is painted and framed, held up for half and hour, in such lights as the Great Artist chooses, and then withdrawn, and the curtain falls." - Thoreau

Indeed....this is a great write about the majesty of mother nature..

It's amazing when you do stop to look how these natural happenings can change your mood and put things in perspective...

Great use of language here....these were my favourite:

an eternal moment captured for hungry, wanting eyes
swirling, curling, waving and wafting in nirvana's skies

A myriad of paintings we all get to see at sunset if we look in the right place at the right time...It may just last for seconds, but it remains in our mind's eye for hours... each day is different and if we're lucky mother nature sure can produce a great show to stimulate our senses... for me, sunsets are a must... very inspiring!
