Up The Down Staircase

Up The Down Staircase

A Poem by Pete
"

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. - Thoreau

"
Swimming upstream… like a salmon ...

where do all the square pegs go in a round world
the ones who dance oddly with their bodies twirled
the fish that swim against the current
the ones who are but aren't

the ones screaming in silence
seemingly off balance
half-mast flags unfurled
the bottom feeders
those who drive on straightaways with their hair and toes curled
