Possession Is Nine Tenths of The Law

Possession Is Nine Tenths of The Law

"

Men profess to be lovers of music, but for the most part they give no evidence in their opinions and lives that they have heard it. - Thoreau

Van Gogh Painted 'Marguerite Gachet ...
Palette with which Vincent Van Gogh
painted 'Marguerite Gachet at the Piano'
in 1890

grander than grand
since time began
in sprints and marathons
music reaches out and takes hold of us
convincing us
affirming us
owning us
saving us
assuring us thus

in dark, cobwebbed recesses
in well-lit places with all that it takes and possesses
in ways that nothing else can
hypnotizing
mesmerizing
baptizing
speaking in tongues
to me, you and everyone
as we join in with the band
leaving us no choice but to hum along, be touched and understand

"My body was the organ and channel of melody, as a flute is of the music that is breathed through it. My flesh sounded and vibrated still to the strain, and my nerves were the chords of the lyre." - Thoreau
