Nothing's Free

Nothing's Free

A Poem by Pete
"

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone. - Thoreau

"
person throwing log of firewood into ...

go ahead, toss another log on the fire
it's only a piece of a tree
probably a dead one

after all, you need to stay warm,
and there's no need to leave things be
besides, nothing's free

Author's Note

Pete
"Of what use were it, pray, to get a little wood to burn, to warm your body this cold weather, if there were not a divine fire kindled at the same time to warm your spirit." - Thoreau

"It is the living spirit of the tree, not its spirit of turpentine, with which I sympathize, and which heals my cuts." - Thoreau
