Veritas Absentis (Jack Squat)

A Poem by Pete

It takes two to speak the truth—one to speak, and another to hear. - Thoreau

Planet Autism: square pegs don't fit ...

people see me
they hear me
they think they know me
loving, hating and ignoring me
laughing both with and at me
from sea to shining sea
burying me under their warm embraces, icy cold and heaping, hot coals
turning me into one of their wooden pegs and fitting me into one of their misshapen holes

i hide my truth from the world
i bury it so deeply that even i don't know where it is, let alone what it is anymore
like cream, it tries to rise to the surface every day
but it's just treading water
turning sour
looking for a new song to play

let them think what they will
let them gawk as they lean on their rotting, peeling window sill
let them boil, ferment and distill
let them haul their gossip and trash to the landfill
let them travel to foreign lands and kill
let them go to disney world for a thrill
let them turn the the world's crumbling mountains into a concrete molehill
let them slumber with an expired  pill
i'll just keep drilling for more rhythm and life, as i jam out and chill
