Don't Think Before You Feel

Don't Think Before You Feel

A Poem by Pete
"

We never exchange more than three words with a Friend in our lives on that level to which our thoughts and feelings almost habitually rise. - Thoreau

"
Rolling Hoops ...

so what''s the deal
locked in bastions of emotions hardly of concrete or steel
rolling a never ending wheel
hardly an even keel
next time, i'll make sure i have enough chips before i sit down, ante up, shuffle and deal
i'll save my last meal

i won't open a package with a broken seal
won't toss another, single, slippery banana peel
making damn sure i have plenty of the right viscosity oil
for life's never ending squeal
i'll learn to run before i steal

i'll try not to think before i feel

Author's Note

Pete
"In summer we live out of doors, and have only impulses and feelings, which are all for action, and must wait commonly for the stillness and longer nights of autumn and winter before any thought will subside; we are sensible that behind the rustling leaves, and the stacks of grain, and the bare clusters of the grape, there is the field of a wholly new life, which no man has lived; that even this earth was made for more mysterious and nobler inhabitants than men and women. In the hues of October sunsets, we see the portals to other mansions than those which we occupy." - Thoreau
