A Toast to Life

A Toast to Life

A Gentleman's Guide to Making a Toast ...

with my hair pretty much gone
blessings counted at each new dawn
wrinkles are setting in
everything takes a little longer
may not be able to fist pump with quite the same steel
or sail the ship with a steady,  even keel
can still thank the almighty with an easy bend and a precious kneel
as i fight back with a not so stiff upper cut, a litigating left cross and a knockout zeal
not having to think in order to feel
in these fast times of driving without touching the wheel

life's heavy but it's still a real, good deal
grateful for the ability to still kick up a heel
opening my milk without breaking the seal
cereal with banana and to hell with the peel
blessed with credit without having to steal
raise your glass and somehow it will be filled
look up at the sky, feel the sun 'pon your face and you'll still be thrilled
thank god for small miracles
earlier and earlier i dream and yawn
thank heaven, at least i can still turn the music on
