Eight Miles Too High

Eight Miles Too High

A Poem by Pete
"

Be yourself- not your idea of what you think somebody else's idea of yourself should be. - Thoreau

"
Watch the Byrds' Epic Instrumental ...

you sing the song but don't know the words
strum the strings but can't play the chords
beat drums without keeping a beat
read signs without being able to find a street

you claim to be saved yet are afraid to die
insist you care but are afraid to cry
think yourself an achiever but are afraid to try
never asking, "how", focusing instead on, "why"

you try to fly thinking you're one of the byrds
telling the truth when you know it's just another lie
pretending you live in a mansion when it's really a sty
you tell others to go eat cake when all they have is pie
you think you're well grounded when you're actually eight miles too high

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." - Thoreau
