You Are What You Eat

You Are What You Eat

A Poem by Pete
"

But men labor under a mistake. The better part of the man is soon ploughed into the soil for compost". - Thoreau

"
Stinkweed feed toxicity harmful ...

you plant your flowery words in manure
watering them with crocodile tears
wondering why only stinkweed grows
feelings and emotions raised and lowered like faded, velvet curtains of pantomime shows

a wrinkled, folded, coffee-stained, travel brochure
with no destination; a cancer with no cure
a tangled, fishing line without a lure
a bald clown with an appointment for a coiffure

Author's Note

Pete
"I see in many places little barberry bushes just come up densely in the cow-dung, like young apple trees, the berries having been eaten by the cows. Here they find manure and an open space for the first year at least, when they are not choked by grass or weeds. In this way, evidently, many of these clumps of barberries are commenced." - Thoreau
