You can have my shoes

A Poem by Samuel Dickens
"

A simple poem

"

You can have my shoes when I am gone

I never walked enough, or gone that long

So you can have them, friend, to carry on

And find that magic place only known in song

I'm feeling very old and worn out. This poem doesn't flow well, I know. Sorry.

This poem beautifully conveys a sense of connection and nostalgia through the metaphor of shoes as symbols of shared experiences. The imagery of a "magic place only known in song" adds a poignant layer, inviting readers to reflect on their own journeys. The overall tone is heartfelt and resonant. Great work!

This poem does send a message Sam.... if you're giving away things then either you're moving or ready to call it quits... though it's short...it shows some old memories of things past...and perhaps a new venture for an old friend...a kind thought.....in song....

This really broke my heart. No don't feel that way! I just wrote that it reminded me of another poem "for sale baby shoes never worn." short and sad. I think it's painful in every way when a story ends where it should have started and someone else feels that way. Your poem is very beautifully written, sir, but I don't want to look for that beauty right now. Thank you for sharing it anyway. powerful

Thank you. You do me a fine service.
It is a thought that our usefulness will be outlived by the last pair of shoes we bought, but Di as I do Samuel, only go kicking and screaming, because that will show them....something or other, which I'd why I don't get asked to write many wedding speeches these days! 😃
