A Walk in Deep Green Wood

A Walk in Deep Green Wood

A Poem by Samuel Dickens
"

Which way do I go?

"

Two roads there were in deep green wood

I knew not which to choose

So I scratched my groggy head

And took a shot of booze

Left or right, I didn’t know

But wanted to be fair

And so that whiskey bottle

I tossed into the air

It landed pointing somewhat left

And gave so-so direction

To the path that was the best

Or close enough, I reckon

Stumbling down that grassy way

I fired up my ol’ bong

But when I saw the zombie horde

I knew I'd chosen wrong

Hey, you zombies, go away

And do not eat my brain

I meant to take the other path

Not dead meat lover's lane

A gruesome dinner, I became

And soon the lights went off

I swear the one who ate the most

Looked like Robert Frost

I don't know what's wrong with me. Too much Monty Python, I guess.

Well Sam you brought both Monty Python and Robert Frost to the fore with this write. I am a fan of both. So faced with that division in the road and not being sure which direction to take, a swig of the hard stuff helps? I enjoyed this zombie write and it's gruesomeness :)

Thank you, Chris. Sure... hard stuff always helps us make good decisions. (I'm lying)

nicely creative. clever with a touch of the disturbed. remind me never to follow you or ask you for directions. the only zombies i would want to meet are the band from the sixties. much enjoyed. needed a warm chuckle on this frigid day.

Just more of my silliness. Thank you.
Is this your Halloween poem? As for what's wrong with you, I think it's natural to mock Frost and his choice. It might be a good poem, but it's been shoved down children's throats so universally and repeatedly, it is just asking to be satirized. Thank you for the little romp, you always entertain. Now we need something from Poe. I bet you could get some great Halloween material from his stuff.

Thank you. I actually have plagiarized Poe a bit. Once in a ridiculous poem, and in a short story i.. read more
A quick check of the calender tells me it is indeed close to Halloween Samuel, but as an employee of Forestry Scotland I would urge you to put down the bong and the bottle as they don't make very good hiking companions. Plus, I doubt they were real zombies. Maybe you just went hiking in Scotland, where we call them the locals! 😃

Thank you. Perhaps you're right, and I was too rollin-stoned to know the difference.
Very silly! I love it. I feel a bit of frustration with Frost, lol, that damn road in the wood? Zombies can make any story better. Thank you Sam, that was fun.

Well, I have sometimes taken the wrong path and got a hitch back to my car, but this sounds like very dark humor.. winding up in a bull/ cattle farm where you are dead meat is quite scary. You always start out very quietly and simple, then the crescendo builds to a crash landing!!! I still love your writing!!!

Thanks, Betty. Everyone should write at least one poem about zombies, don't you think? (I'm kidding)

Thanks, John. I hope we don't scare ourselves.
Well, you got it off your chest, and I expect it made you feel better. But it is a pretty good parody on that poem of Frosts. I liked it!

Thank you. I got my silliness from Dad.
Another Monty Python fan. These youngsters don't know what they missed, Sam.......but then maybe you wrote some of the scripts.....just a thought!!!
