Why do you cry

When you say hello?

Is it because

You'll have to say goodbye?

Why do you weep

When time goes too fast to follow?

Is it because

Life passes by?

Does it hurt?

Does it make you feel broken

To live this life

With eyes wide open?

My Dear Writing Friend,
Your poem caused me to muse for hours. Living life with eyes wide open was a concept that I understood and could relate to. This write brought forth this thought. We First Nations peoples use an expression of “walking with straight eyes”. For us to do this our eyes always have to be focused on the truth, even though this may be painful. And this at times this does hurt, makes one feel broken, and we weep. But this as well allows us to see the beauty that surrounds us and in that beauty we at times get to bask.
An excellent write, one worth rereading many times in the years to come as I try to always walk with straight eyes wide open.
