Idol HandsA Poem by Glee
Baseball Master Pitcher You’re the star Spectators cheering Team mates holding their breaths All eyes on you now Umpire sends his signal Bowler makes a perfect throw Bat steadied shoulder level Eyes on the ball Holding your breath Now You see yourself swerving your bat Hitting the ball in one precise swing Watching the ball burst out in the open field But no At that last moment When you’re just about to take the shot You relax Loosen your muscles And let go Bat falls flat to the ground Ball heads right back passed you You missed You’re seated at a bar Comfortably chatting with the crowd Ordering rounds of drinks An attractive woman makes an entrance Killer legs Perfect smile Swift cat walk Sitting over by the counter By herself Who’ll hit on her? Who’ll be the first to hit on her? You brace yourself for the moves Straightening out your collar Dusting up your coat Bouncing up to the counter You see yourself talking Throwing your pickup lines Setting your killer smile But no At that last moment When you’re just about to speak You shut your mouth And head over to get yourself a drink You see people Pooling together their savings Rushing to buy lottery tickets The more the merrier The greater the higher your chances of winning But no At that last moment When you’re just about to buy one You pull back What’s wrong with you? Why do you always miss at the last moment? Idol hands Jaded hands Just relax Unwind Take a break Don’t worry It’s not really worth the go It’s never really worth the effort Don’t ruin your hands Don’t get them all dirty and greesy Let them stay soft and tender Idol hands Go back home Grab a beer Lie on your sofa Watch TV Crunch a crispy Play video games Look at your porn Things will take care of themselves Idol hands Where are you going, idol hands? Touch it and you will ruin it Scratch it and you will scrape it Could you afford to pay it? Just sit back and relax Every success comes with its painful price Every endeavor comes with its back breaking risk Look on the bright side At least you’re still breathing Look on the upper side At least you’re still moving Tomorrow will take care of itself Temptation Watch the beautiful diamond jewel Pretty Stunning Sparkling It lies helpless It sits in solace See it just sitting there Pick it and you could be rich Grab it and you could say goodbye to your troubles forever Just reach out and you will see Nobody is watching No one will know But watch out, Idol hands Look deeper, idol hands It could be a trick It could be a trap The jewel lies surrounded by fire The jewel lurks in a dungeon of serpents Counting on your ambition Waiting for your greed Don’t want to get your hand caught in the cookie jar Reach out and you will be burned Step out and you will be bitten Get rich or die trying? Why all the stress, Idol hands Is it all really worth it? Who cares what others say? Your concern shall be for thy self For how could you pleasure in what you have lost? Thy safety must come first Looking deeper into the red hot coals Staring harder into the furnace But look, see It is no jewel It is a helpless baby child Weeping for your compassion Begging for your sympathy Have a heart The fire spreads relentless Rescue him from the flames Be his mighty hero Just reach out and grab him Just step out and remove him Have a heart But look deeper, idol hands Be careful, idol hands It could be a trick It could be a trap Don’t want to get eaten by a wolf in sheep’s clothing Reach out and you will be burned Step out and you will be bitten What will you do? Save the kid or die trying? But no You’re a good person Of course you’ll take the risk Will it not be worth it if you tried? You see yourself getting close Reaching your hands in the red hot coals The aura of the heat starts to creep into your skin Roasting your flesh like a piece of dry beef Oh the pain is so intense No time for weeping The child must be saved But no, its too strong So you pull back Not this time, no way But no You’re a good person You must save him So you brace yourself once more And head back in Placing your hand in a hot pot of simmering oil Feeling the oil fry up your flesh to the inner bone Sets your nerves on fire Runs quivers down your spine But you’re no coward You’re strong You’re steadfast The child must be saved But not this time This time you will withdraw You’ll give it another go the next time So you brace yourself Shut your eyes hard And storm in again The child must be saved Snakes Serpents Waiting for you to place your hand in the cobra pot Lashing out with their fangs Unleashing their poisonous venoms at your hands But no You can’t go in now You’ll go in later You’ll give it another go later The child must be saved So brace yourself and give it another go You reach out You see yourself reaching out But just at that moment That last defining moment When the fire gets intense When the heat starts to build up You withdraw But time is running out The clock is ticking The chance won’t wait around forever Save a life or die trying So you brace yourself And dash in once again But you know you won’t go all the way No, you’ll give in and surrender at the last moment Like you’ve always done Like you’ve always been But no worry You’ll just get close and come out any way No harm in that So you see yourself withdrawing Pulling back At that last defining moment You see yourself giving up Surrendering Withdrawing Because it’s really what you’re good at But no Not this time You’re too lazy to withdraw You’re too tired to give up You’re too drowsy to surrender You’re too weak to give in You look inside You look deeper The child is saved You saved him You’re my hero © 2009 GleeReviews
