The Concrete Jungle

The Concrete Jungle

A Poem by Mr.H

Nature has always had a grand plan
One that has never changed since it all began
All part of the delicate circle of life
But now its different, now we live in a concrete jungle always facing a constant strife
This concrete jungle is filled with a diverse group of creatures
More so than any jungle, here the animals have so many more features
But they all have one thing in common selfishness
And climb the corporate ladder using some discrete finesse
This jungles more harsh than the thickest jungles of the Amazon
You need to make the choice if you’re the tiger or the fawn
Survive through your brains not your brawn
So that you can be a king and not a pawn
A game of chess fueled by money and the greediest of the greedy
Who in a second would sacrifice the weak and the needy
All to benefit themselves by going on the attack
Trying to get one step ahead by stabbing each other in the back
Ahhh Social Darwinism at its best
But are those who make it too the top are truly blessed?
Because who cares what cars you have and how you dress
Because when you die, is there any value in what you once possessed?
