FAP #11: Fading

I saw you fade.

As you moved within shadows,

I offered my hand

and held out my heart.

Time folds,

slips slowly away,

and is lost in sorrow’s tears.

Yet

stars still pulse

and waves crash

on lonely, wind swept shores

turning once hard rock

into grains of wet sand.

Violins weep their strings;

songs sing still

their sweet requiems

of forever’s torment’d laments.

And I wonder,

were you ever real?

Or, just my illusion’s

allusion of your allure?

I always knew 

life was a cruel master

with long silences

still dripping from my tongue

and my need to find you

in those shadows.

Yet all I see

are dragons

and soul eating demons.

I want’d and need’d

to taste the air you breathe

as cold storms gather’d

to disrupt a bosom

untouched by a gentle touch.

As time sigh’d its escape,

I saw you fade

forever away.

There’s a hole in the space

my heart used to be.

It is fill’d with sharp,

jagged edges

stabbing me

with missing you

serenades.

NOTE: This will be the last in this FAP series. #11 is an odd

number to end with, but fitting since she has closed out her 

presence here at WC. This is a loss to sad to express. So this is

my tribute, and this last poem my farewell to her.

She has truly inspired me - 

her poetry, her wit and teasing me 

comments, her humor and humanity, damn, her everything life!

Those who know me, know I am well grounded in reality, but I am

left with this question: Is it possible to fall in love with

someone simply by reading their poetry? My answer:

Yes, on a certain and wonderous level, it is possible.

It is absolutely possible, my friend....without a doubt. What a warm and wonderful tribute to FAP. She is sorely missed here....and I don't think she even realizes that. "Missing you serenades" are played on dark days....days when even puddles are not welcoming. Oh to "taste the air you breathe"....that is such a delicious line, my friend. The entire series was tender, gentle, and oh so romantic. The fact you chose a Carole King song to accompany your words makes it even better for me. Bravo, Curt! Lydi**

I love that song, that whole album from Carole King actually. I thought it fit nicely in this poem.. I did send her a few from this series.... Funny thing is Lydi, I could write maybe 10 more and still find poetry roaming im my head... I know weird huh... but anyway, thanks for your words Lydi, I am touched that this series has found you also missing her presense. I am not sure she realizes just how much she is missed here (by those that are true poets, true friends). On one level she does, but it is not enough to have to deal with all the other stuff that is here. And she is right!! Why should she or anyone have to put up with all this bull crappy... Anyway, nuff said. Thanks again Lydi...

There are some very unsavory types floating around here, that is true. I don't know why poetry sites seem to attract them. Perhaps she will return one day. I hope so. Lydi**

a part answer to why poetry sites attract such ugly people is that I think there is a huge offensive against art in its many forms... and also because women come looking for ways to express their hurts and pains, as well as their feelings for asthetics and color etc... art is often the "harbinger of change", of progressive thought and debate and in todays social setting, this is not very acceptable, or at least that is what is being struggled around. But these people don't deal in debate and exchange of ideal and ideals, they are more interested in attack, snarkiness, personal attack and trying to "get some"... but the result is that the whole atmosphere is corrupted and ugly even to those who just want to create art and post it... it will never go away until this kind of activity is no longer allowed to have a say at any poetry site. It is one thing to debate style and technique etc over a poem, it is quite another to personally attack someone for their words... We should welcome real honest exchanges even disagreements, we can learn much in this way, but nothing is learned by attack...

That is so true, Curt....but it seems we have encountered attacks at this and the other site we posted on. I think people are cruel. They feel bigger and better when they cut another person down...and that is really sad. What is sadder still is the fact that poets who have real talent leave the site because of this behavior.

i do think it is possible to fall in love with someone because of their poetry...also with singer songwriters for their lyrics and voice.
