“Lose Yourself to Dance”

It’s a new year
so ‘lose yourself to dance’;
wild gyrations laughing
at hips swaying the air
in riotous tones
and happy feet.
‘Come on, come on
everybody on the dance floor’,
yes, even you
with those doubts and fears,
let me dance away your tears,
just ‘lose yourself to dance’.
~~~
I know the world’s a mess,
that we live in light and dark,
inner turmoil
of what we are becoming;
self conscious insensitivity
to atrocity after atrocity,
wondering,
have we lost our humanity?
~~~
As the world,
our lives,
teeter in this chaos
let’s   STOP!
And lose ourselves to dance.
‘Come on, come on come on,
everybody on the floor’;
bodies afire with rebel music
we won’t live their way any more.
Let’s dance in our gardens,
plant our seeds,
harvest a world
without their criminality.
~~~
 ‘Lose yourself to dance’.
Yes even you
with all your fears,
all those self-cultivated doubts
pass them through music’s prism,
a mirror of refracted life,
a pathway to hope
and our humanity.
~~~
Come on, come on, come on
it’s a new year - 2016
everybody on the floor
join me in rebellious dance!

this poem is inspired by several events.. listening to this Daft Punk song; reading poetry at another poetry site; and a new year only hours away... so 'lose yourself to dance' and enjoy the video...

Even tho we're far from the new year now, I love this message! It's especially meaningful now that we're watching this election year unfold . . . it's definitely called for, that we forget this madness & just dance! I like the contrast in your message between the 2nd stanza, describing this crazy mess we're in, & the rest of your poem, which presents us with the perfect antidote . . . there's that word again . . . you're always offering us an antidote to the tough stuff in life! *smile*

This one got my feet moving, now how do I make them stop? Really very good Redzone. There is so much bad in the world my wish is that it never gets loud enough to drown out the music. Often it is music that gets many through the day. Music can heal and bring smiles but I suppose also bring up some sad memories too. Still what would world be without music to make us dance?

Have we lost our humanity? No, I refuse to believe that. When I help at the soup kitchen or bring food to the food bank, I see so many who care and who dance to the beauty in life. "Music's prism" is a great place to get lost. I have been dubbed "the dancing queen" of our development because I am on the dance floor all night for every dance we have. No need to learn a routine. Just move and forget your worries. Forget people are watching. Forget all the atrocities in the world. Is it rebellious to dance? I don't think so. I think it is just a delightful past time that all religions, races, and political ideologies can share. I liked this song. I had never heard it before. Very "nice" write. Happy New Year! Lydi**
