POEM #1- Poetry Month

As I step off the back porch,

into the freshly fallen snow,

I look in all four directions

seeking balance in a new day.

As I walk through the snow,

Grandmother speaks to me:

     “Aztec, see how the snow

     covers and quenches the Crocuses thirst;

how their purple or yellow petals

     reach for the sun’s warmth.

     Even as the whiteness

     and cold surrounds them,

     they survive and grow strong.

     You, like them,

     are the creatures of Nature.

     Never forget who you are,

     or where you are going.

My grandson, be alive in the beauty

     above and below.

As I think on these words,

I smile

and renew my life’s journey

that will lead me to you.

The words of your grandmother are worth keeping as she is wise...respect your elders, as they know..
I think she inspires you from above and below...now you are on a new path to greet her wherever....
Very nicely written and shows much hope...
Warmly, B

Most welcome!

Aztec, oh, yes, I like that. It's just beautiful how you wrap the reader in all these brilliant details.

Plus, the words of your grandmother. She was proud but humbly grateful for the bounty Nature gives.

When that gratefulness stops, it becomes clear fast that we won't continue forever on Earth. Earth is the victim. Thanks for this reminder, Aztec.

when my grandparents speak to me they are always poking me to see things LOL I have always needed a slap over the head to remind myself what I'm supposed to be doing:/ my name should have been "wanders a lot" I sure did like the sentiment in this poem

Interesting April poem and I did so enjoy it... Advice is always good if we listen carefully and the advice is coming from someone that knows!
Really enjoyed the read...

wonderful! i love the blend of nostalgia and wisdom. and i always found metaphors using nature to be so profound. we are all from the earth and we all return to the dirt, after all.

Words of wisdom passed down. Lessons must be learned to apply. The boy has assurances, confidence and renewed vigour.

Life in the all around does not have to shout its presence day in-day out. If green or otherwise radiant, it lives.. as does the reader and writer, the dancer, designer and engineer of whatever works for those who have the time to stop and listen to letters placed.. just so.

A grandmother is walking history, used as guide and mentor shown by these words:. Wave at each of those beautiful ladies, present, past and those to come: 'Never forget who you are, - or where you are going. - My grandson, be alive in the beauty - above and below.' How preciously true

My thoughts about your words are as relevant now as were months before today, sir.
