Random Thoughts About You

 

 

I.

The blood streaked across my eye

pooling into a pencil point, but

acting like it wanted to fight.

Instead, it faded, then said goodbye,

As you walked out the door.

 

II.

The wind whipped across the deck

like it was in a hurry to

discover something important.

Meanwhile, ocean waves became

more determined to make a statement

with crushing sound and undertow,

like how you pulled me in, then left.

 

III.

I woke up this morning needing

to eat these Monday blues; devouring

them with anger, cause your Shalimar

flavored pillow still mocks me

from your side of the bed.

 

IV.

Today I awoke inside a dream

asking the radio to play me

some long-ago R&B. Instead

of “Try Me”, what played

was, “You Keep Me Hanging On”,

Vanilla Fudge’s unedited version.

Warrior, Reading Random Thoughts About You since it came up on the side column...That's a LIE. I wanted to see if you'd written anything new and that's why I'm here.
I. That hot, scalding streak across the eye as memories jet through the brain, I felt that.
II. It did feel like I was on a listing ship, the Titanic.
III. That pillow? Throw that b***h away.
IV. Music is a wonderful thing, love. OR it can be the devil's tool to make you so depressed you end your own life. NOT saying YOU ever thought of that. But some people DO.
The poem is lovely and hurt my heart for you. And me.

About that pillow, I should throw it away, it's kinda old and tattered, but I keep it as a reminder that I still have much to learn about what it means to love a woman. For me, music is one of the ways that I experience life, my life, or the life of others. It is wonderful to get lost in the notes and melody, the way it makes you feel. Some of my favorites are from Evanescence, My Immortal for example. Or Muse, and their song Madness.

I felt much emotion in these stanzas Curt, especially with the metaphor and description in stanza two.

how you pulled me in, then left

She lingers still, keeping you hanging on and those Monday blues are still being served for breakfast.

That pillow still mocking was deeply felt. Painful even.

Random Thoughts, they just keep filtering through as a reminder of what has been lost. Haunting indeed and will be relatable to readers. All good wishes.

Readers put their own interpretations on the lines Curt, so I think it says more about the reader’s mind than the author :) BTW enjoyed your choice of music to accompany your stanzas. Hadn’t heard this version before. Have a good week.

True enough Chris. We write from our own perspective and experiences, while the reader interprets what we have written from theirs. I love how what the reader writes gives me not only into what the reader thinks and feels, but how they reveal how they see me and my writing. To me this is how we humans communicate and share our lives, see our community and continuity.

This is a great version of the Motown song. It's edgier, more intense, in my opinion. Thank you for noticing.
