....thanks for reading. Note: this song is from 'back in the day', but holds true today. It is also a tip of the hat to Jacob's poem "Vietnam". Change the names, the system is still the same.

Yes, the times are different. But we never stopped being in the streets, making it impossible because of our resistance for this system to rule. We were part of ending the war in Vietnam and in driving out a president!! Sustained, nonviolent protest of millions of decent people today can drive out a Trump MAGA fascist regime...NOW

Your fire is admirable, the outrage warranted, perplexity justified--How can we? How can this? What the actual F? Being politically awake is good, however, it doesn't and shouldn't preclude the necessary expression of other facets of human existence. Even as a fan of non-dualism, I struggle with being tugged into binary thinking. Anger has its place. It leads to action. But the process of change should not be at the cost of our humanity. Rage against the machine, and keep spreading awareness, but don't stop writing silly love songs, because at the end of the day, that's the world we want to live in.
"What is it then between us"? Whitman asked while intimating he already knew the answer. Because love poems are like the abortion debate, the recitations alone mean that you've already taken a side. The bigger implications like fear and lies, those non-metaphoric bridges where our collective outrage rams itself into the abutment of our indifference, are simply 'non poetic'. The best poems are trying to articulate that metaphoric bridge. And the basis of every poem ever written is love. I feel your outrage/ dana
