Love Sonnet LVII

It was the Summer of our

contentment when you whispered

your intentions. You asked, “Will

you always write me poetry?”

I should have known I

couldn’t keep that promise,

the promise of a forever Spring

day, that the moon would

always want to dance you

into my arms. Instead, my

shadow got in the way of your

sunshine, and you walked away.

But, my love, though it’s way too late,

here is another poem, just for you.

It's like a promise that couldn't be kept and the bittersweet reality of a love that ended. This poem beautifully captures the shift from a hopeful "forever Spring" to a melancholy present. The imagery of a "shadow" getting in the way of "sunshine" is a powerful and honest way to describe the end of the relationship. An offer of one last poem as a form of apology and a final act of love. Brings a sense of closure and gentle sadness. Just lovely writing.
