Love Sonnet LVI

 

 

The other day I was in a

conversation about music, the

music of the early 60s to 70’s,

and how, due to the changing world,

 

there was a sweetness, a tenderness

to the songs we heard on the radio.

Ben E. sang “Stand By Me’, while Johnny N.

Saw ‘….Clearly Now’! Otis R. was ‘Sitting

 

On the Dock of the Bay’ thinking

of better days, and Nina S.

sang about ‘Feeling Good’ on

 

a new dawn, a new day where hope

lived in the revolutionary upsurges then,

but still dreamed of today.

This poem looks back at the '60s and '70s with warmth, showing how the music of that time carried tenderness and hope. Classics like "Stand By Me" and "Feeling Good," are timeless and will resonate through generations. It reminds us how those songs reflected the struggles and dreams of a changing world - dreams that still matter today. I personally love the song Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer)" by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs. Sigh, such a beautiful sweet time.

OOOH, "Stay..." 'and your daddy don't mind..." I'm listening it as I type this response to your comment. RomaJ, I think you are a romantic. The song topped the Billboard charts in 1960! I was 13 at the time and my friends and I would go to each other's homes after school and watch Bandstand and dance. This song was one of our favorites. There we were, just teenagers dancing in our living rooms.
"Please, please remain just a little bit longer." Have another dance... one more time. ;0)

"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" by the Platters is another early 60's hit we dance to.

Even now, dear Curt, those songs still makes me blush and want to fall in love. Thank you for this poem; it beautifully evokes the sweet nostalgia of that time.
