Love Sonnet LIX

Social norms require me to

live in a box, one made with

spikes and chains, but with

the perks of domination. Mortal

wounds, but fists screaming and

bloody, a heart ice cold. No, I

don’t need a gun to brutalize, just

the normal, daily working of

male superiority and a white skin.

Isn’t it great! I can f**k anyone I

Want - no regrets. Hell yes, the

World was made just for me. Submit or die!

Wait, what’s that I hear? Drums beating, humanity

rising, singing, ‘Today is a good day to die!”

NOTE: the quoted line, is a saying by Sioux Warriors

before going into battle. It is also a reference to living life

to the fullest, with gusto and purpose.

This poem is a really raw and powerful expression of rebellion against social norms. It calls out toxic masculinity and privilege, then flips into a battle cry for change. The final line, "Today is a good day to die," feels less like surrender and more like a call to live with purpose and fight for something meaningful.
