....I saw you through the smoke and fog

Mary Jane’s Last Dance

It was day 23 of Poetry Month

when you walked through the door,

And I said,

“Oh my, my. Oh hell yes”

as my eyes landed on

that party dress;

thigh high red with

a side slit stare, and

I was pulled into your sway.

MaryJane delights

played in my mind,

like how smoke and fog

swirled in kaleidoscope air,

and we began to dance.

We dance in those empty spaces

found in shadow where

there was only silence,

except for the scream

I saw in your eyes.

As my breath held like

a loosening embrace,

you began to fade

back into the night, back

into the loneliness of

need and desire.

The music stopped on

its last note, no echo,

just lost to a forever

long gone, leaving me

on the dance floor

alone.

Good 'ol uncle Tom as I was always told he was...not sure why that was but it was only much later in life where I learned a different meaning of that phrase. A reference to his wife Jane, I find this song appealing. Your poem here is a tie, tribute if you will, while also memorializing a moment or perhaps creating one, either work for your purpose here. It's nice.

Hi
This dance seems like a wonderful memory… your words portray the scene perfectly, in a fog of sensuality; then gone like a whisper
Vivid colors and romantic hues
Well done!
