A Prayer That Always Seems Relevant To Me

A Prayer That Always Seems Relevant To Me

A Poem by Bishop R. Joseph Owles

There is no option for "Prayer" so I chose Poem.

O God who is love
You provide for all things.

The grass of the field is clothed with lilies;
The birds of the air are fed.
And yet, I have fears.
I have doubts.

I worry about how I will eat tomorrow
And forget that I have food today.

I worry about things I cannot control
And it makes me spiritually sick.

I am afraid that I cannot love you as I should.
I am afraid that I am incapable of being loved by you.
I have a fear of failing at faith.

Lord, I ask you to take all my fears.
I don’t want them any more.
And should I feel the temptation to be afraid or to worry,
I ask you to gently remind me that I am falling into sin.

For you say to me “Fear not”
And yet, I fear.
You say “Do not worry”
And yet I worry.

Take all my fears and my worries
And leave me only your love.
Love casts our fear, so cast out my fear with your love, O Lord.
Let me trust in your love more than I trust in my fear.

Thank you, Lord, for all that I am and all that I possess"
Not just material things, but the emotional and spiritual things.
And let me trust your love and care for all that I am and all that I possess.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
