Trust

I know this is not the best poem written. But its raw and its forward with no frills attached.

Trust

 

A lot of poems are written about trust,

Some are erotic and romance and stuff.

 

To me trust came when I had to have my friends back.

It became more important when I went in the Army.

 

It was a matter of life and death and so much more.

No matter what our darkest secrets we held, it was trust that was given when it all went to hell.

 

We could count on each other,

No matter if you liked the person.

 

It was trust that no matter what,

We would all make it back.

 

If someone fell behind on a run,

Or couldn’t keep up on the road marches, (That were never much fun).

 

You turned around and picked them all up,

And returned as one. (No solider left behind).

 

Now don’t get me wrong, not everyone liked each other,

But you knew your buddy had your back when you were face to face with hell.

That is what true comradery is all about, Ron. Whether you are thrilled with the person's personality or not, you have his back. You make sure no one else messes with him and that includes the universe messing with him. Trust like that is not easy to come by. You were fortunate the other soldiers you served with felt as you did. It's a component of team work and in the service, that is so very necessary...a matter of life or death. Well written. Lydi**

Haha an enjoyable write. I absolutely love this piece. So wise, and so very powerful. Trust can be a very difficult thing to achieve, but once you have it, as long as you stay true to it, you always will have it. Fantastic write Ron.

You are so right in saying that trust is not only about "erotic and romance and stuff" but also about truly putting your life in someone's hands whether you like them or not. I've noticed that men are so good at building trust between each other, more so, in my opinion, than the competitiveness and cattiness of women. There is a respect that goes beyond love (as you clearly state in this poem) that allows military men to trust one another with their lives without having to become best friends (though sometimes that happens). Now I'm not a man, nor ever been in the military, nor have even had family members in the military, but I respect you as one whose only knowledge of these things is through your poetry.

I agree, maybe Ive been to closed in my personnel life but Ive never felt like I could trust someone enough to open up completely.

Thank you kitten. It's the same level of trust a couple should have. They have to be willing to share every thought and desire no matter what it is.
