Of forbidden love

 

 

 

What of feelings that must stay hidden,

lest the world see our true hearts?

 

Would they punish us for what lies underneath,

would they drag us through the streets?

 

Why do others shy away from what we have,

just because they do not agree with the things they say...

make our love so wrong?

 

What walls must be scaled,

or rivers crossed when it rages on?

 

What storms must we endure,

for the world to accept our love?

 

For now we must hide from the world,

what we know is true in our hearts.

This is for all those who cant show their love for each other because of the way some in society feel.

This reminds me of Romeo and Juliet...star-crossed lovers who found love, and it was forbidden in their society. I'm sure this kind of prejudice still goes on today.

Can totally relate to this one. There are a lot of the same cases here, arranged marriage and forbidden one's because of the difference in ethnicity. Some people really make a big issue about our differences but not all the time. This poem is beautifully written!

Really cool, Ron. This reminded me of India's arranged marriages and other cultures. Not only that but interracial relationships, as well. It is truly sad that love can't be expressed out loud for fear of the repercussions. Endearing for sure, sir! :)

Thank you Christian. Yes so many rules in society keep love apart. Maybe its the age difference or as you say the arranged marriages in places like India, or its the same gender thing in other places. If we spent half as much time looking for ways to help each other as we do on stopping love because something about it does not agree with us, I wonder what we could accomplish.
