Lie peaceful my dear brothersA Poem by ronLie
peaceful my dear brothers
You
stood your watch, you
conducted yourself with pride for country and uniform.
All
who saw you, their
hearts swelled with pride, knowing
you protected and served.
You
asked only to wear the uniform, and
took on a heavy burden.
The
price you paid was higher than should have been asked, for
it was not in a war zone, or
on foreign soil… it
was at home where you were safe, where
you should have never had to blink an eye.
But
in the blink of an eye, the
cowards did strike.
They
seek to destroy all that is good.
Though
we have worn a different uniform, I
am proud to call you my brothers.
Once
again my heart is heavy, my
tears fall for you my brothers, my
prayers go out to your families and friends.
Lie
still my brothers you have done your service, you
have served and given more than most.
I
have not yet gone to Gary Owen, but
if you wait for me on that dusty road, I
will join you in good time.
Until
that day tell the inn keeper at the bar, that
the rounds are on me.
Lie
still dear brothers.
