Hymn of Madness

Hymn of Madness

A Poem by Rose of Gondor

There was silence

Ringing silence

In the darkness

Voices everywhere

Calling, pulling, tearing

Gnashing teeth crashing

Hissing, clawing, anger

Hate and love together

Singing songs that never end

Of cruelty and lies and pain

Of all the wrongs done and said

Looping in my aching head

Flooding thoughts that never cease

Mocking, taunting, laughing at me

Fragments of jarring memories

And jaded heart’s frantic beat

In a world of only black and white

Where do all the colors reside?

Why do the stars dance across my eyes,

Drowning in a river of lies?

Words on the very tip of my tongue

Words fine and gentle and long

Words that are broken, never realized

Never in its true beauty been glorified

Never knowing where

I’m simply content with “there”

Morning and night, no sense of time

The day running together

A little bluebird sings

Of tragedy and misfortune, sneering

While the bees hum in the gathering dark

Anxiously awaiting

For the sky to fall

And the earth to crumble

I shan’t allow myself to stumble

Around my feet, curse it all

I heard the lonely barn owl’s cry

Shrieking, ringing in the night

The voices of all the dead, alive

Never to die a second time

Higher, higher I must go

No longer safe on the land below

They’re all fools, I told them so

Fools to be caught in the middle

Of a war that could never be won

Of a game that would never be done

Blood feuds can only end in more bloodshed

Until every one of us is dead

Higher, higher I must climb

Higher, to avoid the ringing bells

To reach, one day, some haven of time

Where dead or living tell no tales

Higher and still higher!

I feel heaven upon my cheek

Yet closer and closer to the pyre

The pyre of eternal sleep

The voices reach out to greet me

Sweet, soft, welcoming

Dancing upon the morning breeze

A melodious ringing

I can almost feel them now

And they sigh and reached out for me

Whispering sweet nothings of times long gone

Whispering of home, of a spirit finally free

And I reached out to greet them

Stretching far, far, higher, higher

Until nothing was beneath my feet

And for a moment I fly

The wind is beneath my arms

The voices go wild

I am aware of a smile unharmed

And then a sudden drop

And suddenly I am falling

Back to darkness, back to coldness

I scream and shout and try to fight

And then I am still once more

There was silence

Ringing silence

In the darkness

Voices everywhere

And then the voices

Faded away…

And the sky faded

Into black…

Rose of Gondor
...sooo....wrote random things after reading Hamlet (....inspiration strikes when you least expect it--Ophelia's monologue made an impression and I went: ok. Time to write something in the POV of a crazy person!)

No, that sounds like the POV of a delusional person. A crazy person is one who is irrational, and you can only prove someone being irrational if they contradict themselves.

eh *shrugs* :D I'm sure there are plenty of definitions of crazy.
That's pretty damn good. Enjoyed it a lot! Often when I write, its the POV of a crazy person - good to know others have that inside of them too.

Write too you soon
