Sleeping BeautyA Poem by Rose of GondorThe story’s old We’ve heard it many times Disguised in different forms Different thoughts and dreams A princess Left alone and forgotten In the dark of winter Frozen through all these years A tale from long Distant years ago A truth the people discarded As fiction They’d forgotten those days Before the curse had clouded Over the castle They’d forgotten those days Before the roses wilted And the vines of thorns tangled around The towers They’d forgotten those days When the castle was open to all They’d forgotten their young princess A girl they had so loved and cherished A few years ago Some still thought of her Still talked of her unusual disappearance On the eve of her sixteenth winter But now all was forgotten The city bustled about Busy as ever Loud, energetic and completely awake While the beauty of the tower Sleeps on in that eternal gloom Awaiting her true love And his kiss To awaken her
