Day and NightA Poem by Rosie Brooklin
Another restless night, spent
doubting your affection. Some days you're brighter than the eyes of a child, But most nights are empty, Excluding those in which I leave my morals at the altar and sacrifice my soul for love. Some days are frigid, Leaving me grasping for hope, But I seem to have lost that blanket A long, long time ago. Although the occasional night is warm, But perhaps that's the liquor. No, it's your hands across my skin. And my words burning, "Where have they been?" I miss the you that didn't own me, when you professed your love like a beautiful symphony And I was able to turn away without hesitation. But I gave you a chance and fell madly in love, And that's when you burned your violin. Is this what love is? I can't leave you, and I never would But on nights like these, I believe that I should. I'm stuck on the bench while you move on with your life. My heart deeply aches; why did you leave it behind? © 2018 Rosie BrooklinFeatured Review
