Banana: split

Banana: split

A Poem by rainn
"

Watch out for banana peels.

"

Un-fortune forever

stalks my shadow,

through wet socks

and my stuffy nose.

I am the morning rain

on a humid school day.

The yellow peel splits,

and my ankles just go.

Reading this, I immediately thought of Maybe This Time from Cabaret The Musical!
“All the odds are in my favor, something’s bound to begin!”
Sometimes unlucky streaks are unlucky streaks, we’ll break them eventually. We can’t keep hoping for Lady Luck, cause she doesn’t exist. I love this so much, especially the second stanza. It’s like- the narrator sees themselves as “un-fortune,” as opposed to seeing the situation as unfortunate. Love, love, love this!

This is my first review on this site so forgive the fact that I don’t know what I’m doing. But your poem was the first one that stood out to me! It’s short and almost comical in a human way. I’d never think to use banana imagery, it’s perfect!
