Catch the Last Train

Catch the Last Train

A Poem by rubie

Catch the Last Train

I think sometimes

this roller coaster ride

should be stopped

and allow me to get off

wave goodbye to
family, friends and lovers

return to dust and

whatever comes next

tight is the choke hold by the tentacles

of emotional blackmail

that speaks to

leaving a legacy of pain

for children, grandchildren

partners, friends and family

it seems a transgression of

right thinking and philosophical

clap trap rules and principles

are what make the choice

reek of cowardice and

self loathing

I bet my frontal lobes

are gray with the

muck of unfulfilled promise

long standing poverty and

the stench of decayed joy

so why don’t I just do it?

stop riding this train and

catch the next one

perhaps that tiny speck of light

like the flame of a Bunsen burner

on the moon

far away but visible

in the mind’s eye

keeps me waiting

to see

how it

turns out

in the end

I think you have stepped into the minds of many of us with this one, Rubie... who hasn't thought about wanting to 'catch that last train' of life and wave goodbye to all of it so the world can continue and forget all about us... but, then there is that tiny glimmer in the distance that keeps us from purchasing a ticket and we quietly wait outside that station for the promise of what might come next... this is great writing, my friend... bravo!
