Proud Nation

 

 

We are a proud nation,

Though our past is shameful.

 

We were in war for our independence,

We were in war to abolish slavery and save a nation,

We are in war because of a terrorist attack.

 

We are a shameful nation,

Though we are proud of our past.

 

Men fought to defend our country.

Men fought to defend their beliefs.

Men fought for them and their family.

 

 

But a lot of people don’t recgonize the men who didn’t survive,

Defending our homes, lives, country,

These are the ones that need the most recognition.

I love this poem except for one slight detial. You forgot about mentioning the women that fight too...sorry I'm a bit of a feminist, but other than amazing write! :-)

There is nothing more effecting than truth tensions of these two lines smacked up against each other:
We are a proud nation, / Though our past is shameful.
We are a shameful nation, / Though we are proud of our past.
