Storms                           by Sami Khalil

An English sonnet…

Yesterday, there was a bad thunderstorm

As the raging man dreamt of pensive notes

Taut with anger and the skeins of Nature’s form

The winds that flung out souls in open boats.

This scattering leaves lust for life aflame

The flooded fields drown by different scales

Idling ‘songsters’ found demurely to blame

Lending behind grave and filiform tales.

Storms bring days like no any other times

A frisson coursing through welling up nerves

The glowing nimbus turning on those dimes

As we writhe in pain around vales and curves.

Storms fascinate as kept battle ready

Waxing, waning intrigues spurred on steady.

This one feels charged and symphonic... like the storm itself is both music and menace. I love the tension here: storms as both destruction and fascination, fear and awe. It mirrors the turmoil within us.

Gracie millee.......
I love watching storms Sami. Their raw unfettered power, their chaotic behavior, their destructive energies and how we humans are helpless voyeurs in their presence. We can not control them, only witness and prepare for them. What also amazes me is that in their aftermath, there is the beauty of rainbows, yes, but also the new beginnings that can emerge. Without the storms of destruction, there can be no construction. In this I am mainly talking about nature and natural things, not the human unnecessary destructive storms of war and disregard of nature and environment.

You always write amazing sonnets Sami, I am a big fan!!

This is a visceral and expressive exploration of the power of storms and their emotional resonance. You’ve created some interesting metaphors like "raging man dreamt of pensive notes" and "scattering leaves lust for life aflame". The imagery is powerful with descriptions of the storm’s power to be both destructive and transformative, reflecting the human experience. Interesting work.
