Becoming

A poem about motherhood and growth

I celebrate two births
A little sprawling babe
Violent need
All arms and legs
The joyful pain of becoming
A cry in the night for
A mother’s arms

And of your birth, too
My sister, my friend, all
Curled up in that tiny, wrinkled fist
So strong.  All your hopes
Waiting to be born
Within you.  Fear not
You are enough.

This is an honest, beautiful poem. Your voice comes through and the last line in particular gives me chills.

While the message is present and strong, the poem would work better with punctuation and without the capitalization at the beginning of each line, as it can be distracting. I hope you can use my feedback.
