On the Threshold of ConformityA Poem by PhaedrusNot budging from own beliefs, though going about life without a hue & cry.On the Threshold of Conformity I
forgot my pencil, but I had the eraser Erase
everything that I learned in school “All
the rules that we learn in schools” " why do we say this? What
rules? Who sets them? Can
I set my own rules? Where
is my pencil? The
answer script came, I
had no pencil, only the eraser I
sat there, looking at the others Scribbling
down feverishly What
are they writing? Who
taught them? I
looked out the doorway, Sun’s
beating down on the courtyard, No
one there, a distant sound of a crow Filter
through the hot air The
room fell silent And
then the sound of footsteps drawing near I
felt the steady and the all-knowing gaze Of
the teacher on me Though
our eyes didn’t meet He
knew, this will be my fate I
continued staring out the doorway At
the courtyard …… The old Ambassador car rode
on the highway I was holding the wheel, looking
out the windshield At the road rolling towards
me The trees on the sides
slowly passed by " I wondered why they
wouldn’t disappear faster I wondered why it took so
long, to arrive at a decision © 2021 Phaedrus |
