Writer's Wednesday 31: His Fist Flew IntoA Story by Sarah J DhueOn my blog, I do an 'event' called Writer Wednesdays. I post a prompt and others(including me) write something based on that prompt. His fist flew into the darkness in front of him. He could have sworn he had heard a sound "
one of them " creeping just beyond his line of vision. His fist came in contact with nothing,
however, which he found both relieving and nerve-racking. He may not have encountered one now " but he
had certainly heard one, which meant its current location was unknown to him. He rested his hand on the flashlight in his utility belt; useless,
since the batteries were dead, but it brought him comfort all the same. He took one step forward. Stopped and listened. Silence.
He took yet another step. A
creak, far to his left. He spun to face
that direction, willing his eyes to adjust, but they refused, only blank thick
blackness spanning out before him. “Maggot!” A guttural voice suddenly cried out and
thudding footsteps thundered toward him.
He bolted in the opposite direction into the abyss, hoping not to crash
into a wall or locked door. © 2016 Sarah J Dhue |
