Dreamer of Sleep

Dreamer of Sleep

A Poem by Sanders Wallace
"

Dreaming

"
December in Duluth
Is an accident of chance.
Bundled in cold despair and gray,
It reminds a dreamer of sleep.

And so is the way of the blackbird
(Though preferred is the way of the blue jay).
He too is a dreamer
Who perches precariously and gabbles.

His time will come to fly
Into velvet, silent and swift
Beyond the frozen night:
A tachyon through black immense.

Forty winks from then
That alabaster swirl appears,
Where the blackbird's gabble
For the dreamer...is made clear.
