Desert Highway

Desert Highway

A Poem by Sean M. Addams

Driving down
A desert highway
Crumbling and stranded
I feel alone
Traveling further
Between complications
Staring through a face
Made of stone

Feet bleeding
As I walk down the pathway
Between the boundaries
Of the normal and insane
I start a fire
Dance inside the coals
My sacred dance
A ritual for rain

I dig for water
Taste the saliva
Lips are chapped
As I thirst on
My throat is dry
I keep on walking
Half of me
Is already gone

Empty car
Out on the highway
The desert
Is my hole
Crawl across
The dried up world
Feel my body
Lose my soul

Traveling further
Between complications
Staring through a face
Made of stone
Driving down
A desert highway
Crumbling and stranded
I feel alone
