Scenes from Beneath Broken GlassA Poem by Michael G. SmithLife takes a victim
And mangled metal scraps Bits of broken glass
Diamonds façade; shards lightened prism
Knowledge of faith just a little too late Our own worlds are what we make
I've made mine, so here I die
This was the path I chose on life's road Haphazard around her bends
Always, a tunnel vision through
I left my own conscience Ignoring the coming punchline
Irony as smashed pylons black around the eyes
In the background sirens wailing also Screaming falsetto
Change evermore late Mimics skidding brakes, as now I must go Looks like a somebody... Of someone I once knew
